Acer's Low-Cost PC, Cheaper than Austek's Eee 2.0

Acer plans on tightening the competition on the low-cost ultra-mobile PC market with the advent of its newest 8.9-inch sub-notebook. According to sources quoted by the tech site Digitimes, Acer's cost offering is expected to sell $50 less than the free-on-board (FOB) price for Asustek Computer's second-generation Eee PC.

The competition between the two notebook PC vendors however, is sure to affect pricing only. At the moment, there are no benchmarks to show whether the Eee PC will feature some extra horsepower as compared with Acer's upcoming low-cost UMPC.

However, the Eee is already extremely popular on the market, and despite the fact that it will come with a lower price tag, Acer's creation is highly unlikely to sell better than Asustek's mini-notebook.

Both computers will feature an 8.9-inch LCD display and will come equipped with Intel's Atom processor. Other hardware details are still unknown yet.

While Acer will release its notebook at an estimative price tag of between $250 and $300 (with retail prices of $350 and $400), Asustek decided to stay away from the discount game and set pricing for its units at around $300 or $350, while the market average selling price will fall between $400 and $500.

However, Asustek has the time advantage in the UMPC battle, given the fact that its Eee PC 2.0 units will hit the market in April this year, and expects to sell a large number of units before Acer's notebook even shows up on the retailers' shelves.

Undoubtedly, Acer has the advantage of its extended buying power. The company is much larger than Eee's creator, not to mention that it has better credit lines with improved buying power. More than that, Acer has a better network of retailers to sell its products.

Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte Soon Available In India - For 62,829 INR

Nokia will soon bring its 8800 Sapphire Arte phone to India, offering users evolved features packed in a luxury device that will surely attract everyone's look. Besides entry-level, affordable handsets, the continuously emerging Indian market also needs more fancy and expensive mobile phones, and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte fits perfectly into this category.

The handset has a sapphire gem stone on its D-pad, a stainless steel cover, anti-fingerprint coating and accents of brown napa leather (a soft but durable sheepskin).

Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte is a slider phone that measures 109 x 45.6 x 14.6 millimeters (when closed), weighs 150 grams and features tri-band GSM (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) as well as UMTS 2100 connectivity. The handset packs a scratch-resistant display with a 240 x 320 pixels display and support for 16 million colors, 1 GB of built-in memory and a 3.15 Megapixel camera (with auto focus video recording) that will allow you to take pictures at a pretty good quality.

Other features include an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen brightness, easy silent mode (just turn over the device, screen-side down), EDGE, Bluetooth, USB, Music player, living wallpapers, Internet and email capabilities and so on.

Speaking about the Sapphire Arte handset, Devinder Kishore, Marketing Director at Nokia India, said: "Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte sets the benchmark for quality and craftsmanship. The high-end materials and seamless surfaces celebrate the art of individuality – inspired by natural light with minimalistic design."

There is no info about the exact release date for Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte in India, but the precious handset will be available for a retail price of 62,829 INR ($1,565). This is about 20 times more expensive than most of the mobile phones commercialized in India, but I'm sure many users will still buy the Sapphire Arte.

Motorola MotoZine ZN5 Leaked Details - 5 Megapixel camera, maybe 3x optical zoom too

MotoZine ZN5 is one of the recently rumored Motorola high-end handsets that should be released by the American company until the end of this year. Together with other new Moto phones that will probably be showcased during CTIA Wireless 2008 (1 – 3 April), MotoZine ZN5 is set to reconquer the leading position that Motorola used to have in the mobile industry a few years ago.

MotoZine ZN5 is probably the long awaited phone made in collaboration with Kodak, hence we should expect it to have a really evolved built-in photo camera. As you can see in the available image with the handset, its camera is quite big, which could mean that, besides 5 Megapixels, it will also feature a 3x optical zoom to make it one of the best camera phones to date.

The official specifications of Motorola ZN5 are not known, but there are some rumored features, including: GSM and GPRS connectivity (apparently there's no 3G, which is quite a drawback), Freescale SCM-A11 CPU of unknown speed, Montavista Linux 2.6.1 Operating System, a 320 x 240 pixels display, MPEG-4 support, TV out, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) and a morphing keypad resembling the one packed in Motorola ROKR E8, another handset that is not launched yet.

There are no further details about the new ZN5, and the single real image with it is not a frontal one so we can't say if the phone has a slider form factor or a candybar one. The first variant is more likely to be true though.

Hopefully MotoZine ZN5 will have a decent built-in memory and a price in accordance with its features – not quite affordable but neither an excessively high one. More about ZN5 should be revealed at CTIA Wireless so we should wait for the beginning of April to see if this is indeed a handset that can put an end to the not-so-great period Motorola is going through.

Nintendo Financial Rating Cut

Analysts say “hold”, don't “buy”

KBC Securities Japan has recently downgraded the financial rating of games giant Nintendo, saying that it expects the sales of hardware like the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS to fall after the record numbers that the company has recently released. Being Japanese-based, KBC is in a unique position to monitor Nintendo's position on the games market.

KBC analysts Hiroshi Kamide wrote in a report that the price estimate for Nintendo stock at 12 months is $580, more than the current trading price of about $530. Even if an increase in the share value is to be expected, clients of KBC are advised to hold on to their already bought Nintendo shares while avoiding paying for more.

The downgrading move comes as Nintendo increased its projected sales and operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 31st in Japan, for a third time after the Wii outsold rival game players. The NPD numbers for February regarding Nintendo's biggest market, North America, showed the Wii in a good position relative to the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox.

The main fear that analysts have regarding Nintendo's evolution is that the price drops that Microsoft has announced for the Xbox, coupled with less supply problems for both the PS3 and the Xbox, will mean that gamers will no longer pick up the Wii. A falling dollar and a strengthening yen could also hurt Nintendo's profit. As the company makes most of its sales outside Japan, the fact that the dollar is less valuable that it used to be means that profits, when repatriated and turned into yens, can be lower than the company expects.

So far, just KBC has made the move of reducing Nintendo's rating. If the move is followed by other rating companies, the Japanese console maker could see a significant reduction in its overall value as share prices go down. But strong sales in March will reduce the risk of further financial downgrades for Nintendo.

Bluetooth-over-Wi-Fi Kills Nearby WiMax Networks

The upcoming Bluetooth standard based on the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hybrid technologies has been accused by a WiMedia Alliance company to be crippling the nearby WiMax networks because of its severe interference ratio. According to it, all the WiMax and cellular networks situated in the proximity of a Bluetooth 2.0 network will cease functioning at normal parameters.

WiMedia's Ultra-WideBand (UWB) project was backed by the Bluetooth Special Interests Group and promises increased speeds for the Bluetooth data rates, that could reach speeds of 20 MB/s.

According to Roberto Aiello and Siddharth Shetty of Staccato Communications, when using 802.11 radios in conjunction with the Bluetooth standard, they will inject interferences into the nearby 3G cellular networks. However, the side effects can be prevented if they are located approximately 8 meters apart for 2.6 GHz and 16m apart at 2.3GHz.

The two researchers tested the interference distance by measuring the interference between 802.11g and WiMax, also known as IMT-2000 in the International Telecommunication Union's 3G designation. However, just as the conclusions of the test were published, other design engineers doubted its accuraty.

"The dipole antenna used by the Wi-Fi card would not radiate the out of band noise as efficiently as the inband signal. The Staccato test shows the signal taken from a connector not after it is radiated by an antenna," claimed one of the design engineers.

However, despite the fact that WLANs (802.11n Wi-Fi) and IMT-2000 devices usually are not paired to operate simultaneously, the inclusion of the 802.11n Wi-Fi as an underlying platform for Bluetooth-enhanced data transfer rates would mean that the two standards will be running at the same time. For instance, if an upcoming high-speed Bluetooth device is using the 802.11 antennae, it could disturb the IMT-2000 services that run in nearby frequency bands.

Despite the possible interferences, 6GHz Ultra-WideBand is the only alternative for high-speed data transfers over Bluetooth.

HTC Brings iPhone a New Rival

The latest HTC smartphone, dubbed “Diamond” comes packed with a range of features which all try to take a bite of iPhone’s big and growing market share.

The Diamond is the latest in HTC’s Touch range and its features look, at first glance, to have been inspired pretty much from its rival, with the Diamond featuring the ability to landscape an image or webpage by turning the phone on its side, and a clickwheel used for navigation. The new 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D provides animated access to people, messaging, email, photos, music, weather and more. In addition, HTC is introducing a new touch-sensitive control for interacting with Touch Diamond.

The Diamond also features a more powerful 3.2 megapixel camera, as well as built-in GPS, support for HSDPA and Bluetooth and a 2.4in screen. The memory size, however, is only 4GB, half of Apple’s cheapest iPhone.

Unlike the iPhone, the Diamond runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. A battery of 900 mAh wich can provide up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours standby time is also fitted in the Diamond.

Corsair Says 4GB are Better Then 2GB

Corsair announced today lab findings that show significant increases in performance and efficiency when increasing system memory capacity from 2GB to 4GB.

Testing procedures and results can be found in the application note AN804: Gaming Performance Analysis – 4GB vs. 2GB, which is now available online here. The analysis examines the benefits on a system’s performance when upgrading from 2GB of system memory to 4GB. Taking a real-world benchmarking approach, Corsair looked specifically at: frame rate improvements, multi-tasking scenarios, program load times and memory usage of various applications.

“Frankly, we were surprised by the magnitude of many of these results,” stated John Beekley, VP of Applications Engineering at Corsair. “The gains achieved in eliminating instances of slow frame rates in games resulted in a very apparent improvement in the quality of game play. Also, the faster task switching that 4GB offers the user results in real productivity increases.”

Utilizing 4GB of memory provided significant performance benefits to the system. Minimum frame rates within popular games increased up to 46% in the tests, thereby creating a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience. 4GB of memory led to shortened program load times and vastly more efficient multi-tasking flexibility, which can lead to more productivity for users.

Computer Game - Mega Man X3

Mega Man X3 was released in 1996 by Capcom. It was the third game in the Mega Man X sub-franchise and the last to appear on the Super Nintendo. Like its predecessor, Mega Man X2, Capcom included the Cx4 chip to allow for some limited 3D graphics and transparency effects. Mega Man X3 was the first game in which Zero is a playable character in addition to X

Story of the Game:

The story of Mega Man X3 revolves around a Reploid scientist named Dr. Doppler. In the year 21XX, the threat of the Mavericks had been neutralized thanks to Doppler's technology, which prevented the Mavericks from going berserk. The reformed Reploids had formed a utopia near their new mentor called Doppler Town. It seemed that all was well, until the former Maverick Reploids suddenly reverted and once again began causing trouble. Dr. Doppler was held accountable, and X and Zero were sent out to contain the new threat. They were soon after called back to Maverick HQ, which was under attack by Doppler's forces.

Sony Ericsson W980 - A "clear audio experience" coming your way

Sony Ericsson is getting ready to release its newest high-end Walkman handset, the W980, first announced back in February, during MWC 2008. The Swedish-Japanese company made public a new teaser video with W980, which can only mean that the release date of the phone is getting closer.

The W980 was designed to be the best-looking Walkman clamshell and it also seems to be the most advanced Walkman phone to come in this form factor. The best features of the handset include: stereo speakers with high-quality sound, external and easy to use music keys, 8GB of built-in memory, Walkman player with Equalizer and lots of other functions, shake control, TackID music recognition, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, plus FM radio (with RDS) and FM transmitter.

Furthermore, Sony Ericsson W980 has a 2.2 inch internal TFT display with 256K colors, an external one with 176 x 176 pixels and the same number of colors, quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) plus 3G / HSDPA 2100 for high data transfer speeds, a 3.15 Megapixel camera, email and Web capabilities, and a 930 mAh battery that can offer about 20 hours of continuous music playback, up to 9 hours of talk-time and up to 370 hours of stand-by time. There's no microSD card slot included in the W980, but I don't think anyone could complain about the huge internal memory.

Xenitis Mobile Phones for Only $12 - To be released in India by the end of 2008

Xenitis Group, an Indian company that produces electronics and motorcycles, announced the release of a new mobile phone that will have a retail price of 499 Indian rupees (INR or Rs.), meaning only 12 USD or 7.5 Euros. Besides this ultra-cheap handset, the company also said it wanted to introduce other 4 mobile devices that would have prices between 500 and 2000 INR.

Although on Xenitis' official website we can see three mobile phones listed, there are absolutely no details about them (name, features etc), so we assume the new 499 INR handset has not yet appeared in official images. Therefore, we don't know yet how it looks like or what features it packs. Anyway, for a price that low, users shouldn't expect too much from the new phone. But as long as the handset can make and receive calls at a decent quality, the $12 price is, nevertheless, a good one.

Quoted by Business Standard, Mr. Santanu Ghosh, chairman of Xenitis, declared: "Our aim is to revolutionize the mobile handset market by introducing affordable handsets with all key features. We hope to tap the market with our affordable handsets. We are already getting good response from handset retailers due to low price and extra features. We also have plans to come up with improved features including dual SIM Card in the next phase. We have floated a new company, Xenitis Telecommunications, for our venture in mobile handset manufacturing."

The new Xenitis phones, including the 499 INR one, will be available by the end of 2008 in West Bengal. The company says it intends to manufacture 160,000 handsets per month, so in the future its mobile products will probably be available all around India.Xenitis is known in India for trying to come up with very affordable products. For example, the company has a notebook, named "Xuva XC 200", which is price at only 14,990 INR (about $360), and a scooter, named "UFO 0150", priced at 34,990 INR ($830).

Sudoku - For Computer(Matrix Version)

Sudoku (数独, sūdoku?)is a logic-based number placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid.

Completed Sudoku puzzles are usually a type of Latin square with an additional constraint on the contents of individual regions. Leonhard Euler is sometimes incorrectly cited as the source of the puzzle, based on his work with Latin squares.

The modern puzzle was invented by an American architect, Howard Garns, in 1979 and published by Dell Magazines under the name "Number Place".It became popular in Japan in 1986, after it was published by Nikoli and given the name Sudoku, meaning single number. It became an international hit in 2005[citation needed].

History Of Sudoku:

Number puzzles first appeared in newspapers in the late 19th century, when French puzzle setters began experimenting with removing numbers from magic squares. Le Siècle, a Paris-based daily, published a partially completed 9×9 magic square with 3×3 sub-squares in 1892. It was not a Sudoku because it contained double-digit numbers and required arithmetic rather than logic to solve, but it shared key characteristics: each row, column and sub-square added up to the same number.

Within three years Le Siècle's rival, La France, refined the puzzle so that it was almost a modern Sudoku. It simplified the 9×9 magic square puzzle so that each row and column contained only the numbers 1–9, but did not mark the sub-squares. Although they are unmarked, each 3×3 sub-square does indeed comprise the numbers 1–9. However, the puzzle cannot be considered the first Sudoku because, under modern rules, it has two solutions. The puzzle setter ensured a unique solution by requiring 1–9 to appear in both diagonals.

Nokia Already Shipping the N78 - The Nseries phone is on sale in Finland

The newest addition to Nokia's Nseries family of high-end mobile phones, namely the N78, is available now in Finland and Nokia will probably announce its launch for the rest of Europe in the next few days/weeks.

The Finnish online retailer Verkkokauppa has started selling the N78 as of yesterday (May 23), for the retail price of 448.90 Euros, meaning a bit over 700 USD. This means 100 Euros more than the price initially announced by Nokia (350 Euros) and we hope that, after the handset is officially released, it won't be that expensive. Not that it's a phone that should come as affordable, but $700 is just too much.

Part of the new Nseries line-up for 2008, together with the N96 flagship, Nokia N78 was first unveiled at the beginning of February. Like all the Nseries phones, the N78 brings a wide range of features. Users will get Symbian S60 3.2 OS, quad-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA connectivity, a high-quality 2.4 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors, Wi-Fi, GPS, Nokia Maps, advanced Web capabilities, email and Instant Messaging, Media player with lots of formats supported, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio, FM transmitter, document viewer and a 3.2 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with auto focus, geotagging, flash and video recording.

At 113 x 49 x 15 millimeters and 101.8 grams, Nokia N78 is not among the slimmest phones on the market, but the Nseries devices are not meant to be slim anyway, they're meant to be powerful. While the N78 should be available across Europe in a very short time, North America will probably have to wait a bit more for it. Well, the important thing is that the handset will surely go there too.

S60 Device Portfolio is Expanding With Samsung L870

Golf Ball-sized Loudspeakers from Sony: HT-IS100 and HT-CT100 - Space economy meets functionality

In case you're the kind of guy who keeps on wondering why companies producing home theater systems rely on the tall towering shapes for the satellite speakers even if on the inside you only find a tiny driver, here's your answer: because the Sony HT-IS100 has just been announced! This nifty home theater system boasts the tiniest satellites you'd ever expect to see in such gear, but as far as the tech specs are concerned it looks like the size is not necessarily a minus. Shaped in a cubic form, the satellites of Sony HT-IS100 sport the approximate size of a golf ball: yes, we're really talking about small cabinets (if I may call them cabinets) but whose sonic response will deliver true audio bliss (or at least that's what Sony says).

Developed especially for those critical places where space is a premium item, these satellites can actually be installed in any corner of the room, whether you're thinking about shelves or tabletops. As a matter of fact, I guess they'd go even attached to your laptop display.

These 43mm cubes weigh only 70 grams each and are complemented by a no-nonsense subwoofer housing the amplification module as well as three HDMI ports, optical digital audio jacks, coaxial digital audio and composite and stereo outputs for a truly versatile use. And for those who think that 5.1 is too much, a 3.1 array (HT-CT100) will be available, comprising said subwoofer and an L-R-Center combo bar speaker, even easier to install than the full surround model. There haven't been made public any clear technical specifications, except for the total power ratings: 250W for the 3.1 system and a massive 425W for the 5.1 surround theater. These models will be available starting June 25 in Japan with a 90,000 Yen price for the 5.1, which runs around $885; unfortunately, there is no word on the shipping date for other countries.

Download Internet Explorer 7 for free

Windows Internet Explorer 7, commonly abbreviated IE7, is a web browser released by Microsoft in late 2006 for Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1. Internet Explorer 7 is part of a long line of Internet Explorer versions and the first major version of the browser in over 5 years, coinciding with the release of Windows Vista. Its market share is increasing as it ships as the default browser in Vista and is offered as a replacement for Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP via Windows Update. While sources are not in agreement as to IE7's global market share (estimates from three sources range from 23% to 44%), when combined with IE6, the two browsers represent the majority of browsers worldwide.

On February 15, 2005, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced that the new version of its browser would be released at the RSA Conference 2005 in San Francisco. Internet Explorer 7 is available only for Windows XP SP2 and later, including Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Vista. The first beta version of the browser was released on July 27, 2005 for technical testing, and a first public preview version of Internet Explorer 7 (Beta 2 preview: Pre-Beta 2 version) was released on January 31, 2006. The final public version was released on October 18, 2006. Interestingly, that same day but prior to Microsoft's launch of IE7, Yahoo! provided a post-beta version of Internet Explorer 7 bundled with Yahoo! Toolbar and other Yahoo!-specific customizations. Version 7 is intended to defend users from phishing as well as deceptive or malicious software, and it also features full user control of ActiveX and better security framework, including not being integrated as much with Windows as previous versions, thereby increasing security. Unlike previous versions, the Internet Explorer ActiveX control is not hosted in the Windows Explorer process, but rather it runs in its own process. It also includes bug fixes, enhancements to its support for web standards, tabbed browsing with tab preview and management, a multiple-engine search box, a web feeds reader, Internationalized Domain Name support (IDN), and antiphishing filter. On October 5, 2007, Microsoft removed the 'genuine software' validation before install, which means that all versions of Windows, whether able to pass validation or not, are able to install the browser.
In late 2007 Microsoft announced that Internet Explorer 7 would not be included as part of Windows XP SP3, with both Internet Explorer 6 and 7 receiving updates.
Within a year after IE7s release (end of 2006 to end of 2007) support calls to Microsoft had decreased 10-20 percent.
